Climbing up and down
Le Pouce 16 times in 24 hours
Giovanni Vadamootoo lived up to the challenge by climbing up and down Le Pouce 16 times from Friday 31 July to Saturday
1 August 2020. This trail running, hiking and climbing enthusiast
covered a total of 67.72km and 6,912m of ascent. During lockdown, he felt the urge to climb this mountain for 24 hours. That is how the " Pouce en Lèr " project took life as an endurance challenge as well as an opportunity to indirectly state that “everything is fine” after the lockdown. The aim of this project came about is mainly social but with an added charitable dimension. Giovanni Vadamootoo took the opportunity to support Percy Driver and raise funds for Link to Life, an association involved in the fight against cancer.
What about you, what record are you after?

Off-mountain running
The Moka region boasts a beautiful mountain range and six trails that have been recently marked and cleared by Moka Smart City. There are also more accessible options around Helvétia, Courchamps and Telfair. The surrounding sugarcane fields and the Promenade, a walking and cycling path running from Telfair to Helvétia, will allow you to enjoy nature in the city. These trails are ideal for cross- country runs, hiking and jogging and are already very popular with the locals. Those who don’t know the area or don't have the time to chart a route, no need to worry. The Strava application includes the MOKA LOOP (Helvétia-Gentilly-Telfair- Courchamps-Helvétia) segment
to guide you!
New segments available on
New segments are now available for jogging,
hiking and trail running enthusiasts on their Strava application, including 6 marked trail paths as well as tracks looping through different areas of the smart
city, the Promenade and sugarcane fields up to the Bagatelle Dam. More than a social network, Strava – which means “striving to do something relentlessly” in Swedish – has become the number one app for sports fans worldwide. The service was launched in 2009
and is a must-have, especially for running and cycling enthusiasts. The application is within everyone’s reach, with a simple and user-friendly interface. Segments are among its best-known features, with millions of them worldwide. For your information, segments are portions of road or trail that each registered athlete can create on the platform. They can compare their performance with other athletes within the Strava community but also with themselves. For example, they can track their personal record on the same Moka Trail route all year round. An official ranking will be published every year to salute the athletes for their efforts and the champions will be rewarded.
