Les Kocottes: bringing new life to a brownfield site
X Moka Smart City has remodelled former poultry houses and other small houses into affordable meeting points for cultural, civic and economic activities. Six Kocottes (poultry houses) with a surface area of 190 m2 each welcomed their first occupants in November 2020: the Association of Mauritian Manufacturers, which is behind the Made in Moris label; TIPA, an NGO that supports the development of vulnerable children through art and culture; the Moka’mwad collective; and artists housed by La Kocotte artistique. This project, which was born out
of a desire to promote diversity and culture within the Smart City of Moka, lives up to its name! P
La Kocotte artistique: a new impulse to the creative industry
X A former poultry house in Moka has been refurbished to accommodate
art lovers as part of the project named Les Kocottes. Following a call for interest, six artists have been selected to use the premises for one year from November 2020. La Kocotte artistique has been designed to provide continued support to creation in Mauritius in all its wealth and diversity. The long-term ambition is to add value to the creative and cultural industries in Mauritius through the dissemination of creations and raising public awareness of art practice. The occupants will also be encouraged to share their art through events and exhibitions.
Why don’t you pay them a visit? P

It's the number of neighbourhoods in Moka where the second edition of Neighbours’ Day will be celebrated this year. After a successful first, the event will be back on 27 and 28 November 2020 to delight the residents of Moka. Neighbours’ Day
is another way to draw communities together and further connect neighbours. The aim is to make it an annual event, during the last weekend of November, that reinforces the ties between neighbourhoods in Moka!
