Distribution of hygiene products
The Ripple Project was initially launched by Djemillah Mourade in 2016 as a citizens’ initiative before officially becoming a not-for-profit association in 2021. While the founder’s initial aim was to help women and girls who did not have access to basic feminine hygiene products, the NGO
has expanded its reach over the years to include menstrual health education. Ripple Association has already worked with various associations on the island, especially in the Plaines Wilhems district.
Improving access to information
Ripple Association has recently taken on the mission to facilitate access to menstrual health information. They have developed the Educational Menstrual
App (EMA), which will soon
be available through online download platforms. Another major new development for
the NGO is relocating to Les Kocottes in Moka. “Moving to Les Kocottes was an obvious choice; we are surrounded by NGOs
and we are creating connections and partnerships with them to implement impactful initiatives. This allows for better dialogue because you are talking to your neighbours. Les Kocottes makes these connections and exchanges easier while offering a dream setting that is both affordable and accessible,” says Djemillah.
Pink October campaign
Every year, Ripple Association takes part in the Pink October campaign, which is aimed at raising awareness of cancers affecting women, including cervical cancer, and the need to get tested. “These issues are very closely linked to menstrual health because the warning signs are often there, but they are not taken into account,” says Djemillah.
This year, with the support of Moka’mwad and Oficea, the association has put a challenge
to businesses operating in the Moka area and the general public. The idea is to support the NGO’s initiatives through donations and the collection of feminine hygiene products.
