FENCING: Looking to build a team!
KARATE: Sparkles in the eyes
The highlight for the club was the JK Indo-Pacific Cup, a world tournament held
at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex with over 600 participants from various countries.
Noah Leong Son was one of the youngest participants.
He won silver in the Kata 9 years old category. Three years after starting karate, the young green belt is a rising star. “I love this sport because you learn so much! It was an awesome experience: there were over 300 black belts
in the competition, and the level was very high. I felt a bit intimidated by the crowd, but
I kept my focus and did my best. I was a little disappointed not to win the trophy, but I am proud to have won the silver medal,” he says with a smile.
In addition to the launch of para-fencing, the club has had a year of sharing. Fencing may seem like an individual sport, but team spirit plays an essential role.
The Moka Rangers fencing club is a community that encourages friendship and camaraderie. So, it was an already cohesive team that took part in a team- building weekend.
HANDBALL: Two players selected for the Indian Ocean Island Games
It has been a great year for the Handball section, with two of its recruits qualified for the 2023 Indian Ocean Island Games. Elodie Valaydon and Ilham Joomawon flew to Madagascar for their first participation in the event.
Ilham, who has only been playing handball since 2019, was quite shocked by the news of their qualification. “I am
The programme included technical coaching, brainstorming, sports games and a campfire to strengthen the bond among the fencers. Ra Issah Baganee particularly enjoyed the event. “My integration into the team went very well from the outset and the training was especially valuable because we all got together for a simple moment of sharing.”

still pinching myself! It was an invaluable experience to take part in a competition of this level and to be able to learn from other players in the national team. And to live this experience with Élodie was
a nice plus,” she says. “We enjoyed the moment to the fullest. It was a stressful, but unforgettable and very rewarding experience!” adds Élodie.
CYCLING: Regularity pays off
This year was filled with major competitions for Moka Rangers Sports Club’s cyclists, including the World Championships in Glasgow and the Indian Ocean Island Games in Madagascar.
Looking back on the year, Raphaëlle Lamusse says, “While the World Championships were particularly challenging, we drew from the experience and
the preparation for the Games. We were faced with difficult circumstances and many of
my team-mates suffered food poisoning, but we gave our best. I ended the competition on a high note with a gold medal in the road race.”
