Moka Rangers, a year of marked improvement
Moka Rangers Sports Club’s athletes have been pretty busy this year. Between training camps and sessions as well as competitions, they have been pursuing their passion diligently, with a smile on their faces. They are developing at their own pace, and the club boasts a new activity, tennis! So, what’s new with Moka Rangers?
SWIMMING:
Aiming for the podium
A number of Moka Rangers took part in this year’s Indian Ocean Island Games. Six of them made it into the national team and have done us proud. Tessa Ip Hen Cheung won two gold medals before leaving for studies abroad. Her team-mates also did well, especially the promising talent who are taking over, like Chloé Ah Chip, Tessa Lam Tze Ting, Adam Rajabalee and Alyosha Nakuda.
ARCHERY: Shooting
the bows further
Archery is moving ahead in Moka! The sport is gaining ground
with para-archery training for coaches and inclusion in the
BADMINTON:
school calendar of Lycée des Mascareignes. The club’s flagship event this year remains the Mauritius Africa Open Archery Tournament.
Kirsley Rambhoro took part
in the barebow event. This category adds the difficulty
of shooting without a sight or stabiliser. He learnt a lot from the experience. “We rely much more on instinct, which requires several weeks of preparation.
I am happy with my first participation, especially for such a tournament. The level was on a par with international competitions and we were able to measure ourselves against the highest standards and the best athletes,” he says.
FOOTBALL: Cultivating talent
The football players excelled
in the Youth Football League,
a tournament organised by Foot80, with eight U12, U13,
U15 and U17 teams. They were crowned champions in the U12 and U15 categories, while taking second place in the U13 and U17 categories.
“In August, the U15 team travelled to Reunion Island and won five of the six matches played. Now, the senior team is preparing to enter the Moka regional championship in the second division,” says
the leader of the discipline, Christopher Honglin.

Improving training through categorising
Starting this year, badminton players will be training in École du Centre’s gym, which is more spacious than their previous facility. The sport
now has three distinct categories
of players: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Moving from mixed practice to classification into different categories will enable them to train better in view of participating
in competitions. “I joined Moka Rangers just after the lockdown and it was really nice to be able to train in a spirit of good sportsmanship. It is a passion that runs in my family and my mother and sister are also members of the club. With this categorisation, we train in a more organised way,” says one of the players, Jeremy Siong Sin.
