Kudos to the new
black belts !
X For the first time, three Moka Rangers Karate students received their 1st dan black belt on
26 February 2021 during a ceremony at the Lycée des Mascareignes gymnasium.
Sara-Jane Larue Antoine, Owen Sam and Sebastien Chung Tick Kan passed their grading with flying colours under the attentive eye of the Chief Instructor of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) of Mauritius. Koichiro Okuma, a 7th dan black belt, was unable to travel to Mauritius due to COVID-19 health restrictions and judged the candidates by telepresence from Tokyo.
Aged 10 and 11 respectively, Owen and Sebastien were the club’s first white belts in 2017. Sara-Jane used to take her children to karate lessons and now trains with them!
The certified instructor, Dr Didier Samfat, Chairman of the JKA and sensei of Moka Rangers Karate, also passed his 4th dan black belt grading.
A successful year for these Shotokan Karate practitioners! P
