Shade structures, an off-grid project
EnVolt plans to install solar-panel covered shade structures on the car and e-bike parking spaces in 2021 to supply power to all public spaces within the smart city, such as roads, promenades and gardens. This off-grid self-generation project requires no connection to the CEB grid. Batteries with a 20-year expected lifetime will store the power for public space lighting in the smart city.
A project to set up two ground-based solar plants
The CEB has launched the Smart City Renewable Energy Scheme to enable smart cities to comply with the legal recommendations of the Economic Development Board on generating their own energy. The ENL Group has applied under this new framework for the setting up of two solar farms with a capacity of 1,200 kWp each. They will be located on the outskirts of Moka Smart City and will indirectly supply residents through the CEB grid system.
“There is more than just a commercial interest. We are above all committed to incorporate our efforts into a truly ecological approach and actively contribute to the sustainable development of our city and island,” says Thierry Rey.
