 All you need is love...
and water!
Psst! You have probably heard that Moka has set up a water purification system to meet the city’s non-potable water requirements. It may sound rather complex, but it is actually not rocket science. Here are three steps to understand what it means exactly.
Did you know that 97.5% of the water available in the world is salty? Consequently, only 2.5% of water is fresh, and fit for human consumption. With the effects of climate change, we must innovate to address this vital issue effectively. This is why several water treatment plants have been installed across the city and a common holding pond was set up to minimise potable water consumption.
Step 1 :
Recovery and
treatment
While in some neighbourhoods land- owners have their own individual wastewater treatment plant, other neighbourhoods are connected to a shared plant. The Beau Climat plant recovers and treats wastewater from the Helvétia and Telfair neighbourhoods, with a total daily capacity of 500m3.
Step 2 : Storage
The water that is recovered and treated is transferred to a holding pond. Located in the future Martial Noël Park, it has
a capacity of 2,000m3 and also collects rainwater.
Step 3 : Reuse
The treated water is channelled from the holding pond through a secondary non- potable water network. It is then used for irrigation and the upkeep of common areas in the city, avoiding the use of drinking water – which is not required for such purposes.
 Bonus :
Taking further action
In the medium term, water treatment plants will also be equipped with smart sensors. The aim is to measure the amount of water saved over time and harness the new opportunities offered by this system to keep improving!
