Telfair, play
A fictional account of people returning to a neighbourhood that has changed profoundly after years of living abroad. A tale of strong emotions and the joy of reunion.
They landed at Plaisance Airport at 10am on a summer morning. They had been preparing for this return home for two years. They had grown up in Moka before moving abroad. It was initially for a few years to complete their studies, but the Mauritian couple ultimately decided not to come back. They ended up living on three different continents, got married and had two children. That was in 2015. Another time. Another world. A bygone age.
They moved back home after a decade. It wasn’t a rash decision; they had carefully weighed the pros and cons. Coming to live and work in the Telfair neighbourhood, in Moka, was certainly the most reasonable decision. It sounded like an obvious choice, like a double golden opportunity that would also boost their career. Something like a triple promise to escape the stress of global megacities, to be reunited with their families and to offer a different experience to their children.
