editorial
    My fellow citizens,
AS ALWAYS, IT IS AN HONOUR AND A PLEASURE TO PEN A FEW WORDS FOR THE THIRD ISSUE OF MOKAZINE.
This year again, I would like to take the opportunity to update you on major progress and developments over the last year within the Moka District as the Council continues to work actively towards improving citizens’ quality of life.
Despite the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have continued to deliver essential services to the public. Investing in the I-Council project has allowed us to continue providing our services on a work-from-home basis during lockdown. Building permit applications, among other things, were continuously monitored. Social activities such as blood donations were also organised during that period.
The Council continues to work with the central government to implement its strategic plan, including the modernisation and development of sports and social infrastructure. There has also been significant investment in recent years in the construction of new drains, and regular cleaning of drains and waterways.
Additionally, we maintain a close working relationship with the developers to advance the sustainable, social and green development of Moka Smart City.
Despite the many challenges, this year has been an encouraging one and has enabled us to gain resilience. This allows us to embrace the future with greater confidence and tackle new challenges with determination and perseverance.
I wish you an inspiring read,
Sudhirchandra Mahesh Kumar Soonarane (M.S.K.) Chairman, District Council of Moka
2021 / NO 3 / MOKAZINE 01
Moka, a diverse and dynamic city
THIS IS ALREADY THE THIRD ISSUE OF MOKAZINE, A PUBLICATION INTENDED FOR MOKA AND ITS REGION. AND WE CONTINUE
TO (RE)INTRODUCE YOU TO THE SMART CITY’S DIVERSITY AND DYNAMISM.
The past year has once again been marked by the health crisis and economic risks. The world has changed over the last two years, so have human interaction and work. We have learned new words and taken
on new habits (work from home, hybrid meetings, social distancing, etc.). Our borders have now reopened and there is a whiff of optimism
in the air. The French magazine, “We demain” foresees a new way of life in the coming years. “It is a virtuous combination of various elements: economic recovery, a number of maturing technical innovations that will be applied to the health and environment space. There is also a desire to live differently, to live better, to live together, and a desire by some to change their lives.”
Cities will play a role as both actors and stages of tomorrow’s world and we are working with the best professionals to prepare for it.
This third complimentary issue will provide you with the latest updates on major projects, the main urban developments of the past and future, significant events in the region and the views of its people. We are also publishing a special feature on Telfair, the city centre and vibrant heart of Moka.
We hope that you’ll enjoy the reading.
Feel free to contact us or share your views on our social media.
Samuel de Gersigny
General Manager, Moka Smart City
