Dear fellow citizens,
IT GIVES ME GREAT PLEASURE TO SHARE WITH YOU THESE FEW WORDS FOR THE FIFTH ISSUE OF MOKAZINE.
This year has been particularly good for sustainable development in the area. The first example that I have in mind is the efforts made by the District Council to promote the well-being of the people of the region, which were rewarded by the title of 1st Runner-Up at the Time for Nature Awards.
Making sport and outdoor leisure accessible in a natural environment is among our priorities. The integrated fitness path projects in many villages have thus been extended to accommodate families.
We are also concerned about energy efficiency in the region and are making better use of our resources. For example, traditional light bulbs used for street lighting in the area are gradually being replaced by energy-efficient alternatives. At the Saint Pierre market, a rainwater harvesting system is already in place and will begin operating soon to meet maintenance needs.
Finally, the Council continues to focus thoroughly on waste management for a clean and healthy region. More than 24,000 bins have been distributed throughout the villages and a monthly door-to-door awareness campaign is being carried out to encourage residents to look after their environment.
These are just some of the green initiatives implemented by the Council this year. In addition, we look forward to being able to implement better waste management under the Waste Segregation Act which will soon be introduced.
Sudhirchandra Mahesh Kumar Soonarane (MSK) Chairman, Moka District Council

  Moka,
the heart of the island
THE JOURNEY CONTINUES AND WE HAVE REACHED THE FIFTH ISSUE OF MOKAZINE. AFTER FOCUSING LAST YEAR ON THE CULTURE
THAT IS EMBEDDED IN THE DNA OF A CITY, WE ARE TAKING A CLOSER LOOK THIS TIME AT A SUBJECT OF PRIME IMPORTANCE: SUSTAINABLE URBAN PLANNING AND SMART CITY MANAGEMENT.
Sustainable urban planning is not just about creating beautiful parks or following certain aesthetic codes. It is a holistic vision that takes into account the environment, architecture, urban planning, the economy and social well-being. Our feature article will introduce you to the vision of Moka, a city that combines modernity with sustainability, innovation with respect for tradition. Learn about the efforts underway to position Moka as a benchmark for environmentally responsible urban planning.
Moka, the heart of the island, is becoming increasingly accessible with the new interchange on the M3 motorway and Metro Express service soon. These developments will change the face of our region while preserving its unique charm.
Mokazine remains true to its mission, bringing you the latest news from Moka. Some 17,000 copies continue to be distributed in the city and the surrounding villages, and a digital version is available 24/7.
As you browse through these pages, you will come across the major projects underway, the progress being made on infrastructure, the region’s flagship events and of course, the stories of those who live in Moka and shape its development.
We hope that this issue will inspire you as much as we have been inspired by its production. And as always, we look forward to hearing from you through social media or any other means of communication.
We hope you enjoy reading it,
Samuel de Gersigny
General Manager, Moka Smart City
