The Neighbours’ Day returns to Moka on 10 and 11 May 2024! The Moka’mwad citizen collective is poised to assist the organisers of this unifying event. Let’s delve into this beautiful tradition that keeps the friendly spirit of Moka alive.

We are delighted to witness this citizens initiative evolving into a popular tradition, particularly as it expands to encompass various neighbourhoods in the area, such as Camp Samy and Gentilly. It demonstrates the desire of the residents of Moka to foster a sense of community and build strong bonds, says Mokamwad‘s Manager, Ketty Lim Ka Lan.

How to organise a Neighbours’ Day?

Local residents interested in hosting their own Neighbours’ Day should first express their desire. Do you possess organisational skills and enjoy hosting guests? Form a committee comprising individuals with similar talents to orchestrate this large-scale gathering, accommodating up to 100 people. Who better than you to create an event that resonates with your neighbours?

Next, reach out to Moka’mwad. The citizen collective will serve as a facilitator, furnishing you with a comprehensive guide to help plan your event, along with support in the form of communication materials, tables and chairs. The remaining tasks must be carefully handled by the organising committee, including inviting neighbours, managing logistics and attending to other essential details for a successful celebration.

A growing number of neighbours forging connections

This event is an opportunity to acquaint yourself with those people who are part of your daily life, but with whom you may not necessarily interact regularly. The outcome is enhanced cohesion within each neighbourhood. Last year, seven neighbourhoods, including three outside the smart city, adopted this concept to bring together over 700 residents of Moka. Will your neighbourhood be added to the list this year?

Every effort is made to create a joyful, family-friendly citizen gathering featuring music, a bring-and-share meal, games and children's activities.

Spread the message to your neighbours!
