Telfair has been under development since 2018 and the picture of the future city centre of Moka is gradually unfolding. It is expected to give added impetus to the smart city through soft mobility and a new and lively urban lifestyle, among others. We take you on a tour!

“Telfair will introduce new standards of living in Mauritius. Its modern, sustainable and connected urban development, dynamic lifestyle and proximity to the sports centre and the future Moka Park will make it a convenient, pleasant and vibrant place for the people who live and work there,” says Moka Smart City’s General Manager, Samuel de Gersigny.

This future neighbourhood will be a dynamic and vibrant 85-hectare ecosystem in the heart of the city, where a new way life of is being developed! Sitting between the country’s two main motorways, only 10 minutes away from the capital and next to the Ebene Cybercity, it is surrounded by Wellkin Hospital, the Charles Telfair Campus and the Helvétia neighbourhood; it is also crossed by the iconic Promenade. In addition, the future 10-acre Martial Noël Park and 18-acre multisport centre are in the immediate surroundings.

Telfair is strategically situated, making it a prime location for the headquarters of corporations like PwC, but also the Moka Smart City Showroom, Oficea’s The Dot office building, a McDonald’s restaurant and a Shell filling station. This clearly demonstrates the confidence placed in the future of the neighbourhood. Telfair is set to become a unique ecosystem supported by major local and international companies, and a real networking hub for businesses operating in the area.

Telfair, a vibrant, dynamic and authentic 24/7 next-generation city centre

Telfair has been designed as a mixed-use neighbourhood with strict urban planning guidelines and is set to become the vibrant heart of Moka. It will be lively day and night, offering a convenient and pleasant lifestyle, and always close to everything: shops and businesses, bars and restaurants, offices, homes, schools, cultural venues, green areas, etc. You can project yourself into a daily life that suits you, with a new story every day!

The neighbourhood boasts a homogeneous architectural make-up, a continuous layout and streamlined connections. Telfair aims to be a harmonious city that promotes pedestrian well-being and social interaction. The amphitheatre (where complimentary daily activities are already available for the people of Moka!) will host all kinds of gatherings – such as family outings, sports activities or cultural outings – and Telfair will be a real networking hub for businesses operating in the area. Its cafés, rooftop bars and business parks will promote interaction and creativity to make the heart of the island a thriving environment for all its stakeholders!

Strong commitments for a sustainable city centre

Like Moka Smart City, the development of Telfair will comply with eco-friendly measures that benefit everyone: LEED Neighborhood Development certification, a drinking and non-drinking water network, a waste sorting system, LEED-certified buildings, etc. Special emphasis will also be placed on soft mobility to encourage users to avoid using their cars. A large number of parking spaces will be available but Telfair mainly relies on regular electric bus services and the creation of pedestrian and bicycle paths. This is a great way to reconsider our relationship with the city!

An innovative vision

image description

Moka Smart City has been designed to sustainably improve the quality of life and experience of residents and daily users. The aim is to redefine the concept of a city through sustainable and environmentally friendly development that is mindful of its people. “City Smarting” is used as guiding principle for a flexible improvement process that continuously adapts to technological advances and critical mass. Telfair is the culmination of Moka’s experience in designing mixed-use, sustainable and long-term neighbourhoods.

It is the realisation of a clear and positive vision with the ambition to create connections between people and the urban space. An effervescence of experiences in the heart of Moka, bringing to life a vibrant and responsible city centre where every day is an adventure! A host of exciting developments will be announced in the coming weeks.

ENL Property has already launched the first phase to ensure that Telfair comes to life right away. It will offer a perfect mix of offices, shops, restaurants, bars and housing options. This first phase will meet the needs of a growing urban population looking for quality of life and will soon reach critical size. It is already under construction and the first residents, business owners, employees and users are expected to move to a lively and sustainable neighbourhood within two years.
