The heart of the island is full of must-do sports activities
If you live or work in Moka, you have no more excuses to dawdle in bed, hang about during lunch breaks or slump into your sofa after work… Get on your feet! The heart of the island is teeming with an attractive range of sports activities.
1. Straight to the gym
Located in Helvetia, the Synergy Sport and Wellness Institute should be your new go-to fitness centre if you prefer indoor exercising. This fully-equipped gym offers group classes, body-building devices, cardio training as well as spinning, zumba and yoga classes. It also features a heated swimming pool of 25 metres, four tennis courts and a wellness centre, operated by a team of qualified professionals: dieticians, osteopaths, podiatrists, physiotherapists, massage therapists, psychologists, acupuncturists, sophrologists and a personal fitness trainer.
What more could you ask for?
2. Join a sports club
At the Moka Rangers Sports Club, you will be spoilt for choice: mountain biking/cycling, trail running, handball, football, rugby, archery, karate, badminton, tennis, fencing, swimming… Open since 2015 to both amateur and professional athletes, the club will give you the opportunity to improve your performance in any chosen sport.
As a bonus, you will get to meet and mingle with people who share the same passion!
3. Football… time and again!
This is an exclusive announcement to football fans who live or work in the area: FootFive is the ideal combination of sports and fun! The only indoor football facility in Mauritius is open from 9 to 12 pm on weekdays and up to 10 pm on the weekend. You should not have any problem to fit it in your schedule. Those who prefer outdoor games can make free use of the football pitch located at St. Pierre Bypass Rd. roundabout in Helvetia.
4. Walking and jogging
There are pedestrian paths all across the new developments of Moka’s Smart City. They are convenient for an invigorating morning walk or a late afternoon jog to release the stress of the day. The green spaces and street lighting will give you more reasons to spend time outside.
5. Trek and trail
For a real blast of fresh air, opt for a three-hour trek going up and down the Pouce Mountain at a gentle pace, starting from Moka. While you are there, you can train for the Moka Trail, which has become a much-awaited sports event in the area. This year, it will take place on Saturday 13th October: click here for more details.
6. Outdoor activities
Are you into yoga, Tai-chi or Qi Gong these days? It would be a great idea to organise public sessions in Telfair’s local amphitheatre. Think about it: the place is quiet, green, spacious… Everything you can dream of for this kind of activity! Why don’t you discuss it with the citizen collective Moka’mwad?
