On 19th February, Moka Smart City celebrated the Arbor Day. This annual event aligns with its ongoing commitment to creating and preserving green spaces while offering Mauritians the opportunity to actively participate in the city’s sustainable development. Here’s everything you need to know.

Remember: last year, Moka became the second Tree City in Africa. This certification highlights cities that are actively engaged in protecting, managing, and maintaining urban trees.

This second Arbor Day is a testament to Moka’s continued efforts to:

✔️ Maintain an urban tree management plan
✔️ Ensure sufficient tree coverage throughout the city

✔️ Promote community engagement in tree conservation

Arbor Day is a wonderful opportunity to involve citizens in this initiative… And they showed up!

“This annual event is open to everyone. This year we worked with the ENL Foundation to ensure that children and adults from the region could also take part. Rightly so, as we have seen growing participation from the people of Moka in this event. We are equally delighted to see participants coming from the North and West for this activity. It’s proof that more and more people are interested in this cause!” shared Anielle Carver, Sustainability Lead of Moka Smart City. This serves as an important reminder of the community engagement at the heart of Arbor Day.

Indeed! The community’s enthusiasm and energy were evident as they actively contributed to the beautification of their city. This event is also an opportunity to raise awareness among younger generations about the importance of protecting the environment for the future.

What she thought about it...

“I was amazed to see the community rally for the greater good. I work in Moka, and coming to this event, I was glad to meet many artists and families who came with their kids to give back to the community. At first, you’d think planting a tree is hard, but once you’re done with the first, you just want to keep going… So much so, you hardly notice how many you’ve planted by the end of the event.”  Asma Dinat, Recruitment Director- Bolt Talent Solutions

This event created a unique experience, marked by the solidarity and commitment of participants who are dedicated to preserving and enhancing the exceptional living environment of Moka Smart City.
