Moka Rangers Sports Club has chosen two young film-makers, Armand and Hugo, commissioned by Beyond Communications, to shoot a moving branding video featuring its athletes. We caught up with them to find out more!

The filming required a greater amount of work to make the images blend into a seamless narrative on screen. The schedule had to take account of the availability of the extras and was prepared according to the shooting locations, which was a complicated jigsaw! To capture talent as authentically as possible, the film-makers used the club’s own athletes instead of actors. The young champion swimmer, Inès Gébert says that her main challenge was to raise her fist in a sign of victory as “I am not used to express my joy this way, I always tell myself that there must be someone better than me. Humility is one of the most important virtues.”

The cycling champion, Aurélie Halbwachs also features in the video. Her greatest moment on the film was climbing Le Pouce Mountain, which was an opportunity to meet with people from other disciplines in the club. However, it was a far more challenging task for the video’s directors. “We had to climb up the mountain with all our filming equipment (cameras, stabilisers, drones, etc.) and – very – high level athletes who were inevitably much faster than us. They must have reached the top quite a while before us! Even if shooting is a physical workout for us, this one was a real challenge!”

Despite all the challenges, they are now proud of the final output. The images, script, editing and colours contribute to a resolutely cinematic style. “The result is outstanding, including the music and the continuity between the different sports. This video brings up a lot of emotions,” says Aurélie. Click here to have a look: Thrills guaranteed!
