Moka Smart City, one of the main sponsors of the Necker Pro Squash Open has seized the opportunity to call upon the expertise of two international champions, for the benefit of high-level athletes who are regularly monitored by the team at Synergy Sport & Wellness Institute. This special coaching session was held on 31 May at the sports centre in Helvétia.
The city of Moka was soaked in the buzzing atmosphere of the 2nd edition of the Necker Pro Squash Open from 21 May to 2 June 2018. This major international event took place at Bagatelle Mall with the biggest names in squash, including Grégory Gaultier and Karim Abdel Gawad, who are ranked among the world’s top 10 players. Moka Smart City was one of the main sponsors of the event and seized the opportunity to call upon the expertise of two international champions, the Englishman, Nick Matthew and the American, Amanda Sobhy for the benefit of high-level athletes who are regularly monitored by the team at Synergy Sport & Wellness Institute. This special coaching session was held on 31 May at the sports centre in Helvétia.
Some 20 high-level athletes attending Synergy Sport & Wellness Institute have been advised on how to optimise their physical and mental preparation before a competition. During a session on 31 May, which lasted more than one hour, two international squash players, three-time world champion Nick Matthew and former No. 1 US player Amanda Sobhy gave them valuable advice on muscle strengthening, nutrition as well as physical, technical and mental preparation before starting a competition.
With this coaching session, we wanted to offer our athletes the opportunity to interact with internationally recognised professionals in order to help them improve their performance,” says Samuel de Gersigny, who is responsible for the management of Moka Smart City.
“We are truly honoured to host these world champions. Moka is increasingly emerging as a city that places great emphasis on leisure activities with major events such as the 2018 Necker Pro Squash Open.
Our support to such an event within Moka Smart City is consistent with our strategy to promote sport in Mauritius. This is a central consideration in the city’s development in order to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants.
Now recognised as a pleasant and friendly centre for excellence in sport, Synergy Sport Wellness Institute was established for this purpose. It positions itself as a true one-stop health, fitness and wellness facility,” he adds.
The sports centre opened in 2012 on the initiative of the ENL Group and was designed to meet everyone’s aspirations. Synergy Sport & Wellness Institute is mostly appreciated for its various advantages such as modern infrastructure, a broad range of services and high-quality professional coaching. It has four tennis courts, a heated 25-metre swimming pool and a smaller pool for children’s swimming lessons, a fitness room (cardio-muscular training), a technical centre for physical training and a wellness centre. This one-stop health and fitness facility aims at assisting those who wish to lose weight or adopt a healthier lifestyle as well as those who require post-traumatic rehabilitation or seek to enhance their sport performance.
The centre has grown significantly in recent years and now offers a range of new services provided by various specialists, including an osteopath, a physiotherapist, a biokineticist (fitness trainer), a nutritionist, a dietician, a podiatrist, a psychologist, a massage therapist, an acupuncturist and a sophrologist. All these services are available under one roof in order to better meet client needs.
