It’s important to specify that there are three different types of permits available to those who want to live and work in Mauritius: the Occupation Permit (OP), the Residence Permit (RP), and the Permanent Residence Permit. Due to its strategic location at the crossroad of Africa and Asia, its idyllic living environment and its dynamic and growing socio-economic stability Mauritius has become a prime destination. If you’re an investor, a professional, a self-employed or a retired non-citizen, then you are eligible for a work and a residence permit. You will take advantages of important tax benefits. Since the OP’s creation in 2006, over 14 500 permits have been successfully delivered.

2. Which permit ?

The Occupation Permit includes both a work permit and a residence permit which allows foreign nationals to work and live in Mauritius for a maximum period of three years (the permit is renewable under specific conditions).It is relevant only for: investors and employed or self-employed professionals.

The Residence Permit is allocated to foreign national at the stage of retirement and to dependents of OP or residence permit holders.

Last but not least, the Permanent Residence Permit allows a non-citizen to work and live in Mauritius for a period of ten years. This permit is relevant to different types of profiles, including: investors with a valid OP, investors who invest at least $ 500 000 in a qualifying business activity, independent workers, professionals with a valid OP or residence permit, and foreign retirees. To obtain these specific permits, you must fall in line with certain criteria, defined on the Economic Development Board’s official website.

3. How to apply ?
