The Moka Smart City has recently officially launched the Moka’mwad Collective, with the support of the ENL Group. The initiative is in keeping with the vision of an integrated, planned and profoundly human city. Here’s a brief overview.
United we stand
Since the launch in 2017 of the Moka Smart City, the Kolektif Moka’mwad initiative has been maturing in the minds of the players involved in its development. The Project Coordinator, Ketty Lim Ka Lan, describes the initiative as, “A participatory, collaborative and caring approach.”
Moka’mwad pursues a simple goal: finding collective solutions to the challenges facing Moka. “Indeed we encourage the different cells to meet regularly and discuss the challenges faced by the citizens and communities of Moka. Regular visits are organised with representatives of different parts of the city to deepen understanding of the situation on the ground,” adds Ketty.
Concrete action!
The collective seeks to address various concerns and is structured around 6 main issues: Ecology & Environment, Education, Health & Hygiene, Economy & Entrepreneurship, Art, Culture & Heritage, and Team Spirit & Sport.
Moka’mwad will have to meet various challenges and is wasting no time – several projects have already been completed and others are already in the pipeline. These include various environmental training sessions on topics such as waste sorting and water saving. City clean-ups and public space revitalisation initiatives have also been conducted on the ground.
There are a number of promising projects, including festivals and other cultural events as well as a collaborative market – and this is just the beginning!
Smart City = Smart Citizen
The main aim of the project is to develop a people-centric city. Far from being mere onlookers, the residents of Moka play an active role in the development of their city.
According to Samuel de Gersigny, Senior Manager – Moka Smart City, the Moka’mwad Collective was established around the following philosophy: “We wished to set up a collective around the shared values of collaboration, participation, engagement and interconnection in order to allow everyone to get involved and contribute to improving the quality of life in Moka.”
The Moka Smart City is therefore a city designed for its residents, who also take an active part in its development and evolution. Unity and collective strength are part of the DNA of the project. “Our vision is simple: the coming together as one of the city and its residents.”
