Meet Robert Charoux, ENL Property’s Embellishment Manager, as he opens about the passion that led him to this career, and what his new function entails.

Tell us about your career leading up to this job as Embellishment Manager.

Before my current role as ENL Propery’s first Embellishment manager in March this year, I was an Assistant Development Manager. This already required me to fulfil part of the embellishment duties. It was, in that sense, a prelude to my job today. My previous role involved the development of infrastructure and the implementation of landscaping projects

Walk us through a typical day in an Embellishment Manager’s shoes…

They’ve got to be comfortable, as my job involves being on the move. One of my main duties is to manage landscaping projects in Moka Smart City. Additionally, I oversee the upkeeping of common areas of both sites, including streets, walls, greens areas, planters and signages, amongst others. The main goal is to maintain a pristine environment for residents and visitors alike. My job essentially involves conducting site visits with landscapers and clients as well as team meetings with landscape architects and other professionals.

The green thumb runs in my family. I started helping my mother and grandmother around the garden from an early age, and it turned out that their passion was contagious. To this day, landscaping remains my favourite part of the job! Additionally, I have always been drawn towards conservation of fauna and flora and I felt that this was a great opportunity to positively impact our environment.

Tell us about a couple of projects you’ve worked on…

This year, I was fortunate to drive the reforestation project in Telfair, Moka, which required us to plant thousands of endemic and indigenous plants. We have also recently successfully completed La Promenade at Telfair. These projects, along with Parc Martial Noel, which is currently in the design stage, are game changers for the region

What about your daily challenges?

Some are hard to tackle. The weather, for instance, is unpredictable. However,we are now planting species which are better suited to the changing environment. Others, like the fickle plant supply circuit has encouraged us to develop partnerships with private and public suppliers guaranteeing the supply of endemic and exotic plants.

Fuelled by a passion for plants and powered by his experience in project management, Robert plays a key part in shaping and maintaining the lush Moka you now know… And we wish him all the best in doing so!
