Most of these international students come from East Africa (Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia), South Africa and Madagascar. They all have the ambition to carve a bright future for themselves. “Discussions are underway to take in students from India as well,” says CTC’s Head of Marketing, Kanya Santokhee.
“Welcoming international students helps create a diverse environment. The social and economic benefits of this model have been demonstrated in many countries,” adds the Executive Director, Dr Jérémy Charoux.
Counsellors are available to support these students and answer their questions. Nothing is left to chance, from the courses to the budget and administrative procedures. A well-oiled process is set in motion as soon as they register.
- Administrative assistance: students are guided by the International Department for their visa formalities, accommodation, opening of bank accounts, medical tests, insurance, transportation and first shopping.
- Meet & Greet: students are met at the airport and taken to their accommodation. They are handed a pack with basic necessities (tea, coffee, food for the first day) on the way. After a good night’s sleep, a tour of the campus will be arranged.
- Orientation: a week later, the International Department team and Heads of Faculties take over for practical and academic issues.
“I was anxious before my arrival, I was afraid I wouldn’t fit in easily. But the hospitality of the CTC staff and the friends I made in the student residence quickly made me feel comfortable,” says Wallance Elias Kalist, a first-year international student in business.
“It’s true, they are very helpful! They took care of all the documentation for the trip, I felt like I didn’t have to do anything!” enthusiastically adds Tariq Hillal Hamad, a first-year management and marketing student from Tanzania.
