The acquisition of land in L’Avenir by Dukesbridge sounds like a promise to its young students. A new secondary school will be available in this new Moka Smart City neighbourhood in 2023. It will be this private school’s sixteenth campus – there are already thirteen of them in Mauritius and two others in Nairobi.

Healthy child development

Dukesbridge was founded in 2014 in Moka, with a regional footprint including three preprimary schools in Gentilly, Helvétia and Telfair. They also have nurseries, day care and kindergarten facilities in all corners of the island.

“We are expanding to meet the growing demand from parents and our young students, some of whom will soon reach the age of 11. The work at L’Avenir should be completed in time to welcome them to our first secondary institution in 2023!” says the founder and Chairman of Dukesbridge, Rishi Nursimulu.

Beginning of construction

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place before the end of 2021 on the four-acre site that Dukesbridge now proudly owns. It will be ideally located along the smart city’s main avenue, La Promenade, with close proximity and direct access to residential and business areas.

“Dukesbridge clearly has an emotional bond with Moka. However, this is also a strategic choice. Our primary schools are currently located in Pamplemousses, Trianon and Union Park. We needed a central and accessible location for the transition to secondary schooling,” adds Rishi Nursimulu.

A quiet atmosphere, a convenient layout and an idyllic setting are among the many advantages of Moka Smart City that have encouraged the Chairman to go ahead.

The Dukesbridge Secondary School will consist of:

  • a 2,000m² building;
  • 450 students aged 11 to 18;
  • 18 classes of 25 students; and
  • a Rs 120 million investment.

Teaching Happiness

Dukesbridge’s curriculum is based on the Australian model, which emphasises holistic child development. Teaching happiness is the motto of this school where sports, arts and outdoor activities are as important as class time.

“A child who is happy to come to school will be happy to learn and be challenged. We create an enabling environment in order to shape future adults with a healthy body and mind. This vision of a better life balance is thus aligned with that of the Smart City,” says Rishi Nursimulu.

L’Avenir in a nutshell

L’Avenir is a new neighbourhood in Moka Smart City facing the dramatic Pieter Both and the beautiful Moka mountain range. La Promenade will ultimately run through the area, allowing for seamless integration into the city.

This 130-acre mixed-use neighbourhood with retail, business and residential areas is connected to the rest of the island by the M3 (Terre Rouge-Verdun-Ebene) motorway and the B49 Saint Pierre road.
